UPDATE - What will the proposed ''Leeds United Golf Society'' be?

Hi all,

Its about time you were made aware of what the proposed ''Leeds United Golf Society'' is all about and the vision

We are various people who love Leeds United, and golf, between us, having massive experience in the Golf Industry, one based in St. Andrews, and the others all based in the Leeds area.

We all have a vision of Golf bringing all sections of Leeds United together, only a golfer will understand the concept, and how good it is!  Imagine playing for the Don Revie Trophy ? and that's only one slip of the tongue

We want you to play at local golf courses, getting the best deals, entering our Golf events, raising thousands for Charity

When you combine LUFC, Golf, and Charity, and make it an organised creature, amazing things will happen!

Prizes to be won every week, chances to play with legends, too many to pick any out, but will introduce them as we go along!

When we launch, we will explain who will be the Ambassadors etc, and for what Trophies we will be playing for on the Charity days.

We must thank Salem Patel and also Paul Mills for dealing with us, working to see how the Golf Society and Leeds United can work together.

We have emphasised we will not be approaching current playing staff, however would be delighted if any members of the squad would join in!

Support

We have already got supported and pledges of help from:
  • 15 + ex players involved, we expect this to be closer 50 by the time we have started approaching them!
  • 35 Professional Golfers, 5 touring pros
  • 2 well known Bands
  • 800+  Leeds Supporters, and growing by the day..
  • 10+ Celebrities who are Leeds United fans and golfers
  • All the local golf courses we have spoken to, many have approached us
  • Much more.......
This is before we have given much promotion on Twitter and Facebook

Charity and the ''Leeds United Golf Society''

It was asked by Paul Mills, Corporate, Leeds United, if we would considered donating funds for the ''Leeds United Foundation''.

We have proposed that 50% of all funds raised will be donated to the Leeds United Foundation. It would be nice to see our logo on the bottom of that page.

A Committee has been drafted up, who will decide how to raise funds for Charity, and also, where to donate the other 50% to.
£5 from each Membership (more below) will be donated to good causes.
We will be holding 4 Charity Golf events per year, at local Golf Courses
We will be holding Charity Auctions

All proposed to be in partnership with ''Leeds United Football Club''

This committee are due to meet on March 1st with Paul Mills  LUFC, and others at Elland Road, however would be good to get the naming/ branding authorised much sooner.

Each week which passes, is a week wasted where money could have been getting raised for good causes. So we are hoping for a launch sooner rather than later!

Membership
The proposed fee is going to be £15 to join, but this needs to be finalised, family membership etc needs looked into

From the joining fee, Members will receive a Society Bagtag, some golf goodies, and a certificate signed by a well known Leeds United name.

Website
We will be launching a website where you will be able to :-
  • Join
  • Enter Society Golf days and events/ Competitions
  • Get deals at local Golf Courses/ further afield
  • Buy official LUFC and LUGS Golf gear/wear/ goodies
  • We will have a page listing all our LUGS members, from the famous to the 24 Handicappers, from Junior to Senior
  •

Launch
Of course, before we can plan any launch, we need to be allowed to use the name of ''Leeds United Golf Society'' Nobody can see any reason this can't be the case, with the professionalism and experience of those involved. We are speaking with the Club to get the launch done as soon as possible,  Salem Patel is fully aware of what we have planned and is following our twitter account, as are many amazing people connected to our great club.

We are looking at having an Elland Road launch once we have sorted the logistics with Leeds United out, as we can inform our very eager VIP Guest list! And any Golf and Leeds United fan will not want to miss it!
The Society will be launched before the golf season starts, with an event in the planning for us to play in!

One of the team who is helping us on Facebook, and Twitter, and beyond, is Dave Cocker.
Many of the Leeds United Golfing family know Dave very well, just a thank you for your help

I don't think we are alone when we say keep the old stories and pictures coming!

A thought
Slip of the tongue 2...  Billy Bremner Junior will be coming to the launch, himself a Golf Pro in Germany, so we want him, and some other guests who are coming, treated like ROYALTY!!

Leeds United and Golf have many links, its about time we made it into a family, and one of the best golf societies on the planet!!

LUFC Golfers, the concept, the vision, the dream

The proposal for the first of its kind Society in Golf and Footballing circles!

The dream is to one day have a Bag tag which says ''Leeds United Golf Society'' !
A society bringing all lovers of our great club and Golf together on the fairways, where men, women and children will be invited to join

Please note, this is all hypothetical at the moment, and an idea, but nothing is telling us it won't become a reality before the Golf Season starts in 3-4 months!

  • We plan to hold events at local golf courses, something those who are behind this incentive are very skilled and experienced in.
  • It is also our aim to work with all the local Golf Courses in the area to bring Members great deals.
  • The Website we would develop would bring all of this together, including promoting and supporting the already established Leeds United Golf Day which many of you will already support.
  • Leeds United already have a fantastic range of Golf equipment they retail, which many of us proudly display down the fairways, this would be available for purchase on the website, along with Society logo'd gear.
  • We are proposing Adult membership is £15 with everyone receiving golf goodies  and a certificate signed by one or 2 famous folk you will know.
  • There will be a Charity backbone to this as explained below, and a suggestion is we will hold a charity auction annually in the Pavilion, one of several things that will raise funds for good causes.

We have had hefty backing from some very famous names, one who will be revealed as the Ambassador, and proposed Chairman of the committee, and EVERY Leeds fan knows him.

The emphasis on any Golf Society that is created will be on Charity. It would make sense, and was suggested that we would raise funds for the Leeds United Foundation

We will list a few of these famous names you all know who have put their weight behind this already in another post, but it's staggering what a family we have in the 'golf and Leeds United World'
You can imagine how humbled we were to be endorsed by 'Billy Bremner Jnr' who is a Golf Professional himself in Germany.

A lot of the Revie era legends played, who we bumped into on Saturday, and are excited about the proposal, as are current well known Professional golfers, ex players, celebrities, staff at Leeds United, Leeds fans who run well known businesses, local West Yorkshire Golf Courses, and last be not least, the life blood of our great club, the fans!

The internet revolution has meant we can tentatively put the basic idea/ concept out to various Leeds United Forums, on Twitter and Facebook.
The feedback has been nothing short of spectacular, and humbling

Golfers and fans of leeds can follow and like us here, where we have a team helping out, thank you all, you know who you are :)

The one thing this golf society isn't going to be, is a political entity.

Leeds United, in the form of Shaun Harvey and Paul Bell, Director of Commercial Affairs, have been nothing short of outstanding

We met with Paul on Saturday I think everyone knows that January is a very busy time for this department, so for them to agree to a meeting at such short notice was going above and beyond the call of duty,  and like everyone else, don't appear to find anything negative about the proposal.

We think its important to share with you on progress and developments, as so many are emailing, messaging us etc offering help and asking questions, so we have decided before any launch, to keep you informed via a blog, where we can share stories and experiences!

Meeting at Leeds United - Saturday 19th January 2013
We met with major LUFC Sponsors, legal folk,  Paul Bell - Leeds United Commercial and others.

A very detailed Business proposal was handed out to all those at the meeting, with a powerpoint presentation.

Everyone at the meeting was very positive, some great ideas and brainstorming was had by all involved, and no negativity at all, which is becoming a common theme during this project.

Two and a half hours before kick off on matchday was never going to be the most ideal time to hold a meeting, no more apparent when we were joined by a couple of members of the Pigeon Detectives who have supported and endorsed the incentive, informing us 4 out of the 5 band members are keen golfers!

All in all a surreal day
Massive thanks to Levi Solicitors, RIM Scaffolding, HESCO Bastion, Shaun Harvey, Paul Bell from Leeds United, Dave Cocker, Donna Waite, Paul Miller and Dominic Matteo, Daryl Hobson and Jackie Pedley.
We would also like to thank everyone for your support during this exciting set-up negotiation/ planning period.

We have agreed to meet on a more official basis on the 1st March 2013.

If you have any thoughts, idea, or suggestions please email us LUFCGolf@aol.com, tweet us @LUFCGolfers, or message on Facebook!

Well and truly ready to ''March down the fairways!''
Who knows which ones!
